1978 BMW R60/7, 599cc. Registration number UJG 170T. Frame number 6003813. Engine number 6003813.
Replacements for the '/5' range, the BMW '/6' series arrived in October 1973. The newcomers were more sportily styled than the outgoing '/5s', boasting new side-panels and silencers together with totally restyled controls and instruments. Like their predecessors, the three '/6' flat twins shared an identical stroke; the 500cc model though, had been dropped in favour of the new 600cc R60/6, while at the top of the range was a new 900cc superbike: the R90S. Apart from the new styling, the presence of a disc front brake readily distinguished the '/6's, which also benefited from the new five-speed gearbox. Introduced in the autumn of 1976, the '/7' models updated the '/6' series that had been in production for the preceding three years. The R90S-shape fuel tank (adopted across the range) and redesigned rocker covers were distinguishing features of a line-up that consisted of the R60/7, R75/7 and a trio of new R100 models: the R100/7, R100S and R100RS.
UJG has an extensive history folder with MOT’s from 1981 at 2,596 miles all the way through to 2016 at 22,347 miles today it is In 1981 it was bought for £1100 by Mr Newman of Colchester from Allen-Wood Ltd, he sold it for £1000 a year later to Mr Hill of Southampton. In 2011 it was with Chuck Smith and David Bell in 2015, James Cooper of Goole bought it in 2020 and our vendor bought it during lockdown. He is passing it on due to a shoulder injury making it hard to move about.
