1991 BMW K100RT, 987cc. Registration number H731 RKW. Frame number 0179794. Engine number not found (fairing).
An all-new design that was supposed to replace BMW's traditional flat-twins, the K100 arrived for 1984 restating the virtues of solidity, comfort and exemplary build quality long associated with the marque. An 8-valve twin-cam unit displacing 998cc, the brick-like four-cylinder motor was laid on its side, lowering the centre of gravity, and mounted fore-and-aft to facilitate the retention of BMW’s characteristic shaft drive. Bosch electronic fuel injection was employed and the long-stroke four developed its maximum output of 90bhp at a relatively low 8,000rpm. The K100 spawned a 750cc three-cylinder variant (the K75) and was later enlarged to 1,200cc, gaining a 16-valve cylinder head along the way. Model designations were carried over from the large-capacity twins: the K100RS being the top-of-the line sportster and the K100RT the tourer.
RKW, like many of its contemporaries was first registered as a Police Motorcycle. When it had finished its service, in 1995 at 51,000 miles it was sold at public auction and bought by our vendor. His son rode it home and it was given a full service and a repaint in the current maroon. There was an issue with the fuel pump (in the tank) which was taken out and the bike was left at the back of the garage. Fast forward to now and it has resurfaced and the space is needed.
Sold without paperwork, which has been mislaid, it is recorded with DVLA, so the new owner will need to apply for a new V5C, the fuel pump is still missing.
