Two Chinese Tek Sing plates, circa 1820s, decorated with blue and white lotus designs, retains Nagel Auctions label, diameter 18.5cm.
The Tek Sing (Chinese, "True Star") is one of the few Asian vessels discovered where her full details are known. She was a large three-masted Chinese ocean-going junk which sank on February 6, 1822 in an area of the South China Sea known as the Belvidere Shoals. With a crew of 200, approximately 1600 passengers and large domestic china cargo only some 190 souls were saved from the wreck. On May 12, 1999, British marine salvor Michael Hatcher discovered the wreck and auctioned the contents at Nagel Auctions in Stuttgart, Germany in November 2000.
