Of Fred Elwell interest; an oak artist's adjustable easel, by J. Bryce Smith Ltd., London, the paint splattered rise support inscribed in paint "To F.W. Elwell, Studio, Beverley, Yorkshire", height 164 cm.
Provenance; purchased by Malcolm Shields at the Bar House disposal sale in 1958. He used this easel at his London studio at 35 Holland Park, London, which he acquired in 1935.
