Hello from Goole!

As you may have heard, we have been planning a move from the Driffield Exchange Saleroom for some time and the moment has finally arrived!

 Spicers at Old Goole

As we move from Winter to Spring and the leaves are in bud it is time for new beginnings at Spicer's. We are sad to leave the lovely people, customers and staff we had in Driffield for so many years, those who welcomed me and gave friendship as I grew the business I believed would flourish, there was always going to come a point where we had to give up the familiar saleroom and look for new premises, engage new staff and prepare for new challenges and opportunities. We didn't of course know the extent of the Covid pandemic or how it might affect or impact on our business. So as much as we Spring forward with the clocks changing soon, lighter nights and freedoms returning steadily we can also reflect on the last year.

We had to furlough some staff and then when more information gleaned had to completely rethink how to run the business in Covid times, lockdowns, tier systems, and as Autumn and Winter were approaching also finding premises with toilets and adequate heating. The public loos are incredibly well looked after, our thanks to those who keep them so clean but we are not sorry to say goodbye to them at least. We also said goodbye to some of our lovely staff and colleagues over the winter months as our journey to purchasing a new site became a reality, we thank our staff who have been so supportive and enthusiastic over the years and despite staying in the same County and doing our best to get them to stay it's a long way on a daily basis, we understand but hope they will continue to support us.

Our customers have been amazingly supportive and encouraging. We continue to grow not only in numbers but in areas our vendors and buyers come from and not just in England, in recent months we have sold to Canada, Poland, Norway and New Zealand to name a few destinations, we'll see what Brexit does to that relationship but rest assured the Auctioneers governing body are keeping us straight and offering guidance for future trading.

We have been blessed with a lot of local vendors and buyers who we hope will enjoy being able to visit us in Goole, it's a lovely industrial location in between the river and the canal, lots of barges, sadly at a standstill for now but with pleasant walking and cycling opportunities on our doorstep, a stone's throw from the motorway, a fabulous venue, an array of new auctions to be announced and we hope very soon also a cafe what other reasons are needed to visit?

We are of course offering the same high standard of service with a full team of new staff, Andy at the helm, his wife, Barbara taking on a part time role and Ian, many of you will know, he often takes to the rostrum as well as running the saleroom on a daily basis.

Look out for an update to our team on the website soon, we leave you with the smiling faces those staff who have gone on to new opportunities and wish them all well.

We're excited about the move and being able to offer more general and specialist auctions from this fabulous building, with superfast wifi, online auctions continuing and hopefully a warm welcome to visitors soon but please do get in touch with any enquiries and keep an eye on the website for auction news and the Yorkshire Post!
