1968 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow I, 6,230cc. Registration number ESB 943. Chassis number SRH 3636. Engine number 3636.
Sold with the V5C, two keys, two service books, owners manual, various MOT's and receipts.
The Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was a luxury saloon car built from 1965 through to 1980 and was the first Rolls-Royce to be constructed using a monocoque chassis and, to date, has the largest production volume of any Rolls-Royce. The original Shadow was three and a half inches narrower and seven inches shorter than its predecessor, the Silver Cloud, but managed to offer increased passenger and luggage space thanks to more efficient packaging. Aside from a more modern appearance and construction, the Silver Shadow introduced many new features such as disc brakes replacing drum brakes and independent rear suspension rather than the ageing live axle design of previous models. The superb ride quality achieved in the Shadow was thanks to the innovative high-pressure hydraulic system with dual circuit braking and hydraulic self-levelling suspension.
ESB comes with its original delivery note with a Sand colour body and Tan hide interior on order number R.7582. from Rolls Royce to Mann Egerton of Derby. The handbook states the car was painted with Sandox silver sand metallic over nutmeg metallic. There are 16 stamps from them in the service books up to 72,955 miles in 1978.
By 1985 it was with Mr Billingham of Chesterfield, an MOT on file states 77,449 miles, and on his passing it became his wives; it lived in a heated garage. In 2011 our vendor bought it with a mileage of 77,697 and recommissioned it rebuilding the braking system and a thorough service.
He has used it sparingly, the odometer now reads 78,432 miles.
The car presents very well with a solid body on top and underneath, the original leather interior has mellowed beautifully with very good woodwork throughout. On our test drive it performed perfectly, going through the gears and stopping with no issues.

More Information

The last service by the main dealers, Mann Egerton, according to the service book was in 1978 at 72,959 miles, the yellow sticker on the doors advises when it should have gone back to them to be serviced. One presumes that there was a change of owner at this time and they did not return to Mann Egerton.
I took it home last night and then to the show today. It drives very nicely but the fuel is old and there were occasions when it spluttered a bit, I think it needs a tune up, check the fuel filter/s, new fuel. I took it up to 75mph, it holds a straight line, braking was no issue, the fuel and amp gauge flicker a bit, the oil pressure was spot on, the temp gauge does not work, all electrics, windows, ariel and the such like work fine, the generator light comes on at slow speeds, no untoward suspension noises, seats are comfy.
