1971 MGB roadster, Heritage reshell, 1950cc. Registration number KHF 109K. Chassis number GHN5 252684G (V5C states GHNS). Engine number 18GGRWEH 27969.
Sold with the V5C, key, MOT history, 13434 miles.
Outstandingly successful despite, or perhaps because of, its relative simplicity, the perennially popular MGB remained in production for 18 years while rivals came and went. Conceived in the late 1950s and launched in 1962, the MGB was mechanically similar to the preceding MGA, though with unitary-construction bodyshell instead of its forebear’s separate chassis. To compensate for the newcomer’s increased weight, the existing four-cylinder B-Series engine was stretched to 1,798cc while the MGB’s aerodynamically efficient lines made the most of the 95bhp available to achieve a top speed which just bested the magic ‘ton’. A ‘right first time’ design that changed little over the years, the MGB had enjoyed sales totalling in excess of 500,000 cars by the time production ceased in 1980.
KHF has known history from 2002 when Mark Zapolski asked Entune 2000 of Manchester to build him his dream MGB. They located a donor roadster car (for some reason the V5C states it is a coupe) and they they renewed or replaced everything on the car. This included a new Heritage shell, panels, grey leather interior with heated seat, carbon fibre lookalike dash, magnolia instruments and carpets. All of the running gear and electrics was replaced with new components. They built him a 1950cc fast road cam engine with servo brakes. The odometer was reset to zero. For some reason he hardly used it.
In 2007 our deceased vendor bought it with 333 miles on the clock, since then he has taken this to 13,434 miles. It has always been taken to Entune to be serviced and they fitted an MG Owners Club hydraulic steering system for him. Since his passing it has remained in the garage until the Travelling Auctioneers TV show visited and asked Spicers to auction it on her behalf. We have driven it and it is very well sorted although would benefit from fresh fuel and a service.
