The 1980 Gold Wing GL1100 marks the beginning of the second generation, shifting from a superbike to a dedicated long-distance tourer with a liquid-cooled engine designed for higher torque. It introduced a longer wheelbase, air-adjustable suspension, and was the first to offer an optional Interstate fairing/saddlebag package.
It was the first model to be factory-equipped with a large fairing and saddlebags, cementing the Gold Wing's reputation as a top-tier touring motorcycle.
NVT was bought by our vendor in 2013 from ebay for £720 in many boxes as a total project. He stripped it to its bare bones, fully rebuilt the engine and gearbox (at 93,000 miles, today the odometer shows 94,917 miles) , new carbs, the brake system was overhauled and all of the metalware painted. New tyres, new battery and stainless steel exhausts have been fitted. It is now a fully functioning machine, with period CB radio, cassette/radio, and has proved a reliable machine. All of this is listed in the April and May 2021 issues of the VMCC magazine.
It is only being sold as he has lost his garage. It was ridden to the saleroom and is now ready for summer cruising.
