The second generation CL is the W215-chassis coupé of 1999–2006. It is based on the S-Class (W220), though it rides on an 8-inch shorter wheelbase. The CL was offered as four models: the V8-powered CL 500, the NA V8-Powered CL55 AMG, the supercharged V8-powered CL55 AMG, and the NA V12-powered CL 600. There were also several limited edition models.
The CL coupés came equipped with the very latest in Mercedes-Benz technology, including the refined Active Body Control fully active suspension system and Bi-Xenon HID lights. ABC uses four hydraulic suspension rams that use three pressure regulators connected to a combination power steering and suspension pump, pushing fluid at a pressure of 2,960 psi through the system that, along with several intermediate computers and master CPU, keeps this car absolutely flat through the corners. The CL class has a lengthy list of custom available features. The following features are standard: climate control, ABC (hydraulic) suspension, all-leather interior, designer wood trim, trip computer, CD, navigation system, front heated seats, power moonroof, as well as power door and boot closing assist.
WRA is a low mileage example at just over 60,000 miles and is on its fourth owner. It was well optioned from new in Tanzanite blue with Java leather, it has Keyless Go, wood/leather steering wheel, electric rear blind, Harman Kardon surround sound, TV tuner, remote boot lid closing and a built in Nokia telephone.
The service history book has been misplaced but there are Mercedes Benz records of MB Hertford at 1,689 miles, 13,585 miles, then MB Edgeware Road at 27,229 miles and 37,034 miles. Second owner Mr D. Wainwright had it serviced by MB Leicester at 41,270 miles in 2013 when he bought it from JCW 2011 Ltd, receipts on file. Derick Smith of Sunderland bought it in 2017 and our vendor bought it in 2019 and had it serviced, including belts (no receipt on file). He has recently had the ABC suspension fully overhauled at a cost of £1890.
The MOT history shows gentle use each year, commensurate with the current mileage and is valid until January 2022.
