Newton Heath was Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway's largest shed with 24 roads. In 1959, the allocation was down to 154 engines, which included 8 Jubilees, 1 Patriot, and 35 Black 5s, of which two were named. In 1963, the code changed from 26A to 9D.
